Plot:
Harold is back (unfortunately) and he’s still being teased. Thelma is a nerdy high school girl who is teased and ridiculed by everyone in her class. Both are lonely and thinking about killing themselves, that is until they meet and fall in love. After Thelma’s classmates find out they play a prank on them both. Angry both join up and take out the bullies. .
Bride Of Killer Nerd is a small step up from Killer Nerd. The production values are bigger this time and it shows. As we open Harold has a new job somewhere, his co workers still make fun of him he looks, even though one of them looks a lot worse then him and can’t stop stuffing her face. Kids even tease him on the streets in one hilariously awful scene as the kids run circles around him screaming “NERD NERD NERD!” Harold is even seeing visions of those he killed in the first movie, he talks to them, in these conversations we get some truly awful dialog. Harold isn’t as annoying this time round as he was the in the first movie..
What helps is that the movie spends quite a bit of time with Thelma, a high school student who is a nerd. Who ever was in charge of the casting should have been shot, all the high school students look like they are about thirty, there is one girl who looks like a forty year old hooker. Her fellow classmates whisper insults about Thelma to each other loud enough for the entire school to hear. They get in trouble for calling Thelma a lesbian and blame it on her so they spend a lot of the movie spitting at her, pushing her around and picking on her. The Thelma character is not as annoying as Harold, I didn’t feel sorry for her but she didn’t out and out annoy me..
The two fall in love after they meet in a church which seems to annoy Thelma’s classmates. They invite them to a party and ridicule them. They get Harold drunk and paint Thelma’s face up like a mime. This doesn’t go down to well and Thelma snaps, both go on a killing spree. .
As I’ve said, Bride Of Killer Nerd isn’t all that bad. The acting is a step up, it’s still pretty bad but it’s not so over the top bad as in the first movie. The script is more straight forwards this time around, it’s more a straight forwards slasher movie. It’s also not as slow as the first movie, the killings start a bit quicker this time around. The direction is ok, it’s pretty straight forwards but it’s not bad. The last part of the movie generates a little bit of entertainment as the geeks reek vengeance, Thelma made a good villain with her face made up in white. .
We get some ok gore here, an axe to the head, castraightion, some bloody stabbings, an impaling, a cheeky shower scene ripped straight from Psycho. Although it’s a little bit of fun in a guilty pleasure kind of way it still doesn’t generate any suspense and the one liners are terrible. Also get a some T&A in the shower scene..
The movie isn’t as unintentionally hilarious as the first but it has it’s moments. In The last movie Harold got down on all fours and meowed like a cat, this time he barks like a dog. The dialog between Harold and those he killed in the first movie is pretty funny, also the blade in his mothers head still looks like rubber. Also everyone that whispers in the movie doesn’t do it very quietly, they’re very loud about it yet no one seems to hear them. One girl manages to smoke a cigarette that isn’t even lit! .
Bride Of Killer Nerd works only as a guilty pleasure. It doesn’t really get going until the killings towards the end, the first half of the movie is rather boring, bar the scenes where Thelma is getting picked on and some unintentionally funny moments nothing really happens. The scenes where the lovers go on their dates is very nauseating. .
Over all the movie isn’t overly dull and unmatchable but it’s nothing new, there are a lot better movies you could watch. This is entertaining in a guilty pleasure kind of way, if your in the right mood you may get a bit of a buzz out of it but I‘d recommend a lot of alcohol beforehand..
Cover Review
The cover art is pretty ugly we get an image of Harold holding a gun, I don't know why, he never gets his hands on a gun in EITHER movie. Then we have his psycho Bride in the background. Troma put no work into this cover and it shows, bland is the best word for it.
