Title Screen
Plot:
A group of med students travel up to an old abandoned foster house that their friend has just bought to help fix it up so he can reopen it. Unfortunately seems like the house has a bad past, an old caretaker went nuts and slaughtered the kids ten years ago. Seems like he’s back as someone is taking out the med students one by one, someone who has an Evil Laugh!
He's screwed!Never a good sign in a slasher movieLook out!
Wow, they just don’t make movies like this anymore! It’s one of those movies that’s just so bad it’s hilarious. The laugh the killer gives out during the murder scenes sounds a lot more like a goofy giggle then an evil laugh. Actually Goofy Giggle would probably be a better title for the movie as it fit’s the tone more.
Evil Laugh sheads the red stuffEvil Laugh sucks up to Fangoria!Johnny pisses on a couple of pissed off rednecks
I think the main problem with the movie is the script, the directing is pretty decent and the acting ranges. The two leads, Kim McKamy and Jerold Pearson actually do a good job with the material they are given. The other two female cast members seem like they where hired for their looks rather then their acting talents as neither is really any good. The rest of the cast are all right.
The musical clean up scene!Uh oh, there's someone under the bed, and he's feeling Marks ass.. wait what?Yes that's Barney, the movies male hero wearing an apron
The movie is never dull, each scene is so ridiculous it’s hilarious. There is one scene early on in the movie where they decide to start cleaning up, they switch on some horrid music and what follows next is a sight to behold. They dance around (badly) while cleaning up, they all take turns in sliding down the banister, we get a close up shot of every ones ass as they shake it at the camera, people moonwalk across the floor and dance around with tables and chairs! Chances are if you survive this unprovoked attack without slamming on the stop button, you’ll be able to watch the rest of the movie with ease. There are many scenes like this, including one when Steven (brother of Scott) Biao goes for a piss, winds up pissing over a ledge onto a couple below, they get very annoyed and chase him down the road.
Some bloody mayhemMore bloody violenceEvil Laugh even has some ass violence
The male lead Barney is an odd character for a male lead, firstly his name is Barney. He sits around reading fangoria and moans whenever asked to do anything. Barney is like a goofy version on Screams Randy, he is big into horror movies and begins to suspect what’s going on. He spends a lot of the movie freaking out about this. One scene that stands out is when he tries to plead with one of his friends not to have sex with his girlfriend because sex = death, his hysterics have to be seen to be believed, it helps that actor Jerold Pearson plays it completely straight and believable, just makes it funnier. Also the movie has a few other things in common with Scream, there is one scene where the killer comes up to a girl and she says “Are we playing psycho killer now? Ok just don’t mess up my hair” just like the scene with Tatum in Scream, although it doesn’t really work to well in this movie as she’s just seen her boyfriend get an axe slammed into his skull.
A splitting head acheBut the door is open, how does it work?More bloody violence
There are a few in jokes to look out for, the movie was directed by Dominic Brascia who played the fat kid in Friday The 13th V: A New Beginning, when Barney is reading Fangoria it has Friday V on the cover, also later in the movie we see the magazine on the couch open showing the director hacked to pieces.
Connie makes a gruesome discoveryShowdownThank god the killer is about to put an end to this
The movie has some strange ideas of suspense as some suspense scenes are very poorly handled and some of them are just bizarre altogether. There is one scene where a couple are having sex on a bed, a hand comes out of the mattress and starts groping the guys ass. The guy tells the girl he likes what she’s doing with his ass which she relies “I’m not doing anything to your ass” “Well if you aren’t then who is?”. Also most scenes are just handled to goofily to actually build any suspense.
The moonwalking from the musical clean up sequenceJust like Tatum in ScreamThe director forces and audience to watch his movie
The movie doesn’t really skip on the red stuff but it uses the “Less Is More” crap way to much as a lot of the deaths are annoyingly off screen. What we do get is a slit throat a guy gets his head roasted in a microwave (with the door open???) , someone gets his heart ripped out and another gets stabbed in the crotch and the blade comes out his ass! Also some characters plead for their lives in hilarious ways, one even yells out “Don’t kill me, kill Connie, she’s upstairs.” what a friend!
The pain, THE PAIN!!!The music isn't any betteruh-oh
If there is anything that actually works in the movie is that it has to genuinely creepy scenes, one involving when Connie is telling the rest of the group the back story to the house, the story is told in such as creepy, graphic way it with some creepy music it worked quite well. Connie even goes on to describe how babies where held up by their legs while their throats where slit, the actress tells the story very well.
The killers mask, scary!
Overall Evil Laugh is very entertaining but for all the wrong reasons, it’s more a comedy then a horror movie but if your big into slasher movies you should have a blast, unfortunately the rotten ending spoils it.

Cover Review

This cover art isn't bad, it looks pretty cool, at least it's drawn. The killer above the building holding a knife is pretty cool, even if that's not how the killer looks in the movie the all.
