Plot:
As a young child Jeanette witnesses her parents brutally murdered by a psychopath with a sickle. Years later Jeanette is ready to leave the mental home. She gets a job tutoring some teenagers French in a secluded country home. But as soon as she gets there she starts seeing the killer around her again but isn’t sure if she’s seeing things, but it seems like someone is butchering people again with a razor sharp sickle.

Flashback is a fantastic slasher movie from Germany, it’s a shame it went direct to video because I think it really could of worked quite well in the cinema. Oh well, at least we can see this gem on DVD and Video thanks to Lions Gate.

I loved the killer in the flick, the sickle is a great weapon and the killer slashes it around with no regard for human life. The blood flows like wine, although the movie is cut it’s still pretty damn violent. We get a few slashed necks and impaling even get a pet body count, yes dogs ands cats wind up meeting the end of the mad mans sickle.

The acting is very good although I’d advice watching it in German with English subtitles as the dubbing is a little off. The direction is fantastic, there are some great shots. The really found a great location to shot the film and the director catches it all on camera. The Germans really know how to make slasher movies as The Pool also had a great location and was nicely shot. The suspense and jump scenes are handled very well, I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of the flick.

The plot is pretty decent and there are some really decent plot twists towards the end. I really didn’t know who would turn out to be the killer and was really surprised at who it turned out to be. I liked the female lead and really rooted for her. I felt sorry for her having to be surrounded by the rich snobs, although that made it more fun watching them getting slaughtered. I really got into the film in a big way.

There is very little I don’t like about the movie. I felt the deaths should have been a little bit more graphic, also didn't like the off screen kills much. Also the movie is played mostly straight but there are a few scenes of humour tossed in, while I found them funny I felt they didn’t suit the tone of this movie. Also a scene towards the end invloving some cops was really stupid, should of gotten rid of it.

Cover Review

I really like this cover art, not a teen in sight. I like the colors and the killer holding a sickle. I like how it's drawn and doesn't look like a bad photoshop job!

I don't like the UK cover art much, fecking cast cover, just looks like a photoshop job, BAH!
