PLOT:
School is hell, especially for a teacher with a dark past. Miss Storm is having
problems with some of her students, she can’t get them to do their work or pay
attention in class. One night Dickens, Smiler and Queenie drag Jon-Jon along
to pay a little after hours prank on Miss Storm but just how much of this can
she take?
Hell High is a hard movie to review, while it looks like your average slasher
movie it’s pretty different. It takes a different root then most slasher movies
do. It opens with a young girl accidentally killing two teenagers. Eighteen
years later she is a shy push over teacher who is having trouble with some
students.
Dickens is the leader followed by Smiler and Queenie, they recruit ex football
player Jon-Jon into their gang. Smiler and Queenie pretty much do whatever
Dickens says and Jon-jon is game for some fun until it turns deadly. It doesn’t
really take a genius to figure out where this movie is headed.
It takes awhile to get going but the dialog and the characters make the first
part of movie enjoyable. It’s interesting to see how the group will go along with
anything from Dickens but fall apart once things start to get serious. I liked the
drama Jon-Jon brought to it all, he wants to do well in school and doesn’t like
tormenting Miss Storm but goes along with it. He is the only one to stand up to
Dickens when things start getting out of hand.
When things do get underway the movie becomes a fun little slasher, although
not like other ones, I doesn’t seem to follow the normal formula, I suppose
since the movie came out in the late 80s it was trying to be a little different
then the normal. The slashings themselves are fun times, we get a pencil to
the head, a slit throat, a head bashing and some groovy impaling.
While the movie is pretty decent there are still some flaws to it. For one thing it
takes awhile for anything to happen, should of sped the pace up a little bit.
Also when it all does happen, while it’s all fun times it’s just a little to short,
should of added maybe to more characters and extended the last part by about
10 minutes.
Hell High is under rated, sure it takes a while to get going but and it just
doesn't seem to have enough characters to kill but it’s still a decent little
movie that’s well written/ acted and directed. Add to that a great little ending
and you have yourself a good little gem. Give it a chance you may like it.
COVER ART REVIEW:
An ok artwork, it's not to
bad. It could of been a lot
better but it's decent
enough.
Word of Warning, the DVD
for some odd and
unknown reason cuts a
scene out of the movie
leaving a big plot hole.
