Plot:
It’s the last day of school, a group and graduation teens decide to throw a wild party. They illegally break into a swimming pool at night for it. The fun soon turns serious someone in a mask starts killing off the teenagers one by in vicious fashion. Trapped the teens start to think the killer may be one of their own.

The Pool has all the right ingredients for a slasher movie, horny teenagers, tits and blood and it’s very well made and a hell of a lot of fun. The flick is well made, it was shot in Germany and the locations are great. The movie isn’t very original but that doesn’t stop it from being a hell of a lot of fun. The acting is pretty decent for this kind of movie Kristen Miller does well as the female lead as does the rest of the cast.

We great some great stalk sequences which are excellently shot. There are lots of near misses and we some cool chase scenes. We get a chase scene through the woods, through a locker room and one scene set in a air vent is the highlight of the movie as our characters crawl through they realise the killer is under the vents and he starts slamming the machete up at them, I was on the edge of my seat all through this scene.

The killer in this movie is pretty cool, he looks quite threatening with a cool (although rather Scream inspired) mask. He stalks around swinging that machete like he was Jason Voorhees. He shows zero regard for human life. The death scenes are pretty vicious, the highlight being the kick ass water slide scene. Violence wise we get plenty of slashing, some impalements, chopped off feet a girl split open, lots of pools of blood around. We also get some tit shots, since it’s set in a pool there is a lot of girls in swimsuits for eye candy, also some dudes in togs for the ladies.

On the downside most of the characters are quite flat, the only three with any depth where Carmen (one of the more likeable screen sluts) and Mike. The rest all blended in together. There is a subplot involving a police officer who is trying to find out where the party is which completely pointless and just drags the movie, could of done without it. While the death scenes where fun they where no where near graphic enough, the movie kept cutting out before the money shot and ruined a lot of the impact, the water slide death scene could have been so much better, also to many people survive.

There is no plot to the movie what so ever, not even when the killers motive is revealed do we get any hint of a plot, it’s just teens getting picked off. Also speaking of the killers motive talk about a terrible motive, I can’t believe they couldn’t come up with something a little better, I mean come on did they expect us to buy that?

The Pool is a fun as hell Scream inspired movie, sure it’s not original but it has enough suspense and good ideas to make it worth while, it’s a great slasher and it’s few faults don’t ruin it, I highly recommend this movie.




Cover Review



Artisan didn't seem to care about advertiving the movie to much, looks like a ghost story rather then a slasher movie. I'm not a fan of this artwork, could of been a lot more inventive.








The UK cover art is a little bit better, it's still pretty basic but at least it looks more like a slasher movie and it doesn't have the cast posing on it. Although the tag line is a bad one!
